Brought to Ireland by the promoter who previously gave us “Mile 12” & “Jeff Scroggins & Colorado”, Midnight Run is a high energy, Tennessee based bluegrass band made up of four like-minded musicians who set out to create a band that ties to the rich traditions of bluegrass music and offers up fresh approach to that “high lonesome sound”. Each member draws from their own personal influences including Flatt and Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Del McCoury, The Johnson Mountain Boys, Jimmy Martin, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Johnny Horton, Chuck Berry, among many others. From bluegrass, country, to rock and roll, they encompass all of musical backgrounds to create a sound they call their own.
Midnight Run stays true to their musical roots with tight harmonies and a reverence for “Old Style” bluegrass music, all while stretching the boundaries of the genre with their song selection, stage antics and exciting performance.
Originating in the Gateway of the Great Smoky Mountains, Midnight Run began its journey in February of 2015, at the Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where they become a permanent staple of everyday life at the distillery, because nothing goes better with moonshine then bluegrass music. Now, with over 200 shows a year, they find themselves playing to audiences from all over the world.
Favorites among bluegrass enthusiast and non-bluegrass audiences alike, they keep the energy high and the audience on their feet. Meet the band:
Fronted by mandolin virtuoso Seth Mulder, brings an exciting approach to his mandolin style with influences of Bill Monroe, Ronnie McCoury, Doyle Lawson, Bobby Osborne and Chris Thile. Seth has toured the United States, Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom, sharing the stage with the likes of Bobby Osborne, Little Roy Lewis, J.D. Crowe, Darrel Webb, Johnny Butten and many others. A North Dakota native, he now makes his home in East Tennessee. You’ll see Seth singing lead and harmony as well as performing some of his original music.
On the five string banjo is Colton Powers, a Tennessee native and recent East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Graduate. Though he’s only been playing the banjo for 8 years, he has become a very accomplished musician and vocalist, bringing influences of Earl Scruggs, J.D. Crowe and Bill Emerson to create a sound all his own. You’ll hear Colton playing banjo and singing lead, baritone and tenor vocals.
On the guitar is bluegrass music award winner Rodney Worley from Calhoun, Georgia. Rodney is no stranger to bluegrass music having toured with some of the best in the business including Audie Blaylock and Redline, Paul Williams and The Victory Trio, James King, Little Roy Lewis and many others. To date Rodney has performed on the Grand Ole Opry, one Dove Award nomination, two S.P.B.G.M.A. bluegrass group of the year awards, two Grammy Nominations for Bluegrass Album of the year and recorded on the #1 song “Lonesome Weary Heart” with Audie Blaylock which spent six weeks on the bluegrass charts. Rodney will be laying down the rhythm guitar and singing tenor and lead vocals.
On the Upright Bass is Max Etling from Plymouth Minnesota. Max is also a recent graduate of East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Program. He played in the E.T.S.U. Bluegrass Pride Band for his junior and senior year where he toured all over the country performing at bluegrass festivals opening up for bands like Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder, and sharing the stage with artist like Larry Sparks and Becky Buller, an ETSU alumna. Max will be playing the upright bass and singing baritone and lead vocals.
