Andy Irvine

31st October 2019 Mick Coastguard Leave a comment concerts, ON NOW, Upcoming Concerts

Andy Irvine returns to the Centre on Saturday Nov. 16th @ 8pm.   Tickets €20.

Booking on 051 391656.

ANDY IRVINE is one of the great Irish singers, his voice one of a handful of truly great ones that gets to the very soul of Ireland. He has been hailed as “a tradition in himself”.

Musician, singer, songwriter, Andy has maintained his highly individual performing skills throughout his over 50-year career.

Andy has been at the helm of legendary bands like Sweeney’s Men in the mid 60s, to the enormous success of Planxty in the 70s, and then Patrick Street, Mozaik, LAPD and recently Usher’s Island. Andy has been a world music pioneer and an icon for traditional music and musicians.

As a soloist, Andy fills the role of the archetypal troubadour with a show and a travelling lifestyle that reflect his lifelong influence, Woody Guthrie. To quote the Irish Times, “Often copied, never equalled”, his repertoire consists of Irish traditional songs, dexterous Balkan dance tunes and a compelling cannon of his own self-penned songs.

Luka Bloom

31st October 2019 Mick Coastguard Leave a comment concerts, ON NOW, Upcoming Concerts

Luka Bloom plays at the Centre on Friday Nov. 29th @ 8pm.  Tickets €20

Luka Bloom is one of Ireland’s most respected contemporary folk artists. Having produced over 20 albums since the 1970s, he continues to push the boundaries of what his music can do.  In the build up to the 30th anniversary since the release of ‘Riverside’, Luka looks forward to revisiting his seminal album along with many other favourites from his vast catalogue.
“The very embodiment of the folk singer, Luka Bloom has that deep sense of social justice with an uncanny ability to distil contemporary life into the pithiest and most alluring combinations of lyrics and melody lines. His voice is still as open and honest as it was over 30 years ago, and his guitar finds chord combinations that are all his own. Passion, playfulness and pause for thought: a hearty combination in any gig.” Siobhan Long, Irish Times.
